Abstract :
The unlaxlal compressive strength of rocks is a major factor in designIng surface and underground structures. This factor is determined
in different methods and depends on inherent characteristics of rock, its sampling and testing method. In similar and inherent testing, the method of sampling is Important, which define the rock to be intact or mass. The size of prepared specimen is the case which vary from one extreme to another. Therefore, unlaxial compressive stength of intact rock or rock mass are the same for rectangular specimenS with different sizes. The purpose of this research Is to compare influence of the height to width ratio on uniaxial compressive strength in rectangular specimens of the crystalline marble of Laybid mines and limestone rock mass from Mahmoodabad mountain, north of Esfahan University of Technology, as well as to find out the relationship between the two kinds of rocks with different size samples.
