Abstract :
Sarsefidal kaolin deposit is located in Khorasan province, about 140Km southwest of Mashhad city. Broad zones of alteration were formed from magmatic-meteoric fluid associated with alkali granite
Granites are peraluminous silica-rich and the Na20> K20. They intruded .Tertiary volcanic rocks.
Major alteration zones which arc recognized in the area arc silicified, argillic, and albite. Silicified zone is covering most of high elevations in the area. It is most abundant in central and eastern part of the study area. The Si02 content of s ilica zone is m ore than 98% Argillic ,zone is situated under silica zone. Major minerals are: quartz, sericite kaolinite and pyrophyllite. Albite zone is found in some area and it is lowest zone in the system. Major minerals are: quartz and albite. Industrial test carried on silica, argillic and albite zone. All of them have good uses Silicified zone tested for glass, foundry and ferrosilica industry. The results are encouraging. Argillic zone is good for tile and paper industry Albite is suitable for glaze.
Low Rb/Sr and Pb-Zn-Cu-Sn content of the granitic rocks indicate
that they don't have any potential for Cu, Sn and W mineralization -Monzonite rocks which are exposed in the southwest of the area show Cu Au anomaly. Broad zone of alteration at Uchpalang and Cu-mineralization -vein all indicate that the southwest part of Sarsefidal has potential for Cu porphyry mineralization.
