Abstract :

In the present thesis, brachiopods of Devonian rocks in North West and West of Esfarayen city, north eastern Iran have been studied and introduced The studied sections were selected in Assadly and Chaharborj areas which are located in Binalud zone, north east of Iran. Lithologicaly, the section consists of limestone, marl, and sandy limestone with dark gray, buff cream , color in weathered surface
The lower contact of the Devonian rocks is transitional. The Upper contact of the studied areas is covered disconformably with Shemshak Formation The studied sequence can be correlated with Bahram Formation in Central Iran and Khoshyeilagh Formation in Alborz Mountain, North Iran
Totally 22 genera and 28 brachiopod species and 3 coral genera have beer introduced, which indicates Frasnian - Famennian age for studied sections All the identified brachiopod species, have been reporthing for the first time from the studied areas.
Some of the identified index species, such as the species which are related to Cyphoterorhynchus genus also have been recorded from the Alborze and Central Iran.
This is indicate the relation between the examined sections with the Albor2 and Central part of Iran. So probably the studied areas belong to the same common sea in the Upper Devonian. Moreover, in a larger scale, the similarities among Iran, Kazaghestan, China and most part of Europe may be,indicate of a similar latitude at that time
Results of microfacies study show shallow sea to neritic environment for the studied sequence.
