Abstract :
This project was conducted on palynostratigraphical studies of Middle-Upper sediments of Farizi section (Binaloud zone) located North West of Mashhad carrired. The section consists of gray marly shales with sandstone and many limestone interbeded with a thickness of 2 1 7m.A total of 34 samples were selected and because the sediments are monotonous, Only 1 9 samples were treated for palynological studies.
62 palynomoph taxa, including 49 dinofiagelate species belonging to 29 genera, seven spores' species belonging to six genera, three pollen speceies belonging to three genera and three acritarch species belonging to one genera were encountered.
The known species were arranged into three assemblage zones as follows:
Biozone 1 (Dinoflagellate assemblage zone I)
Covers a thickness of2l7m.of the section and is identified by first appearance and last occurrence of dinoflagellate taxa, Aldorfia aldorfensis, Valensilla cf. ovulum, Nannoceratopsis spiculata, Escharisphaeridia enayii Meiourogonyaulax valence, and Mendicodinium groenlandicum.
Based on worldwide stratigraphic significance of the above-mentioned taxa, Middle Jurassic (Bajocian-Upper Collovian) is suggested for this biozone.
Biozone II (Dinoflagellate assemblage zone II)
Occurs in a thickness of 1 12m. of the section and is identified by the first appearance and last occurrence of dinoflagellate taxa, Carpathodiniurn predae, Chytroeisphaeridia chytroeides, Ctenidodinium tenellum, Ellipsoidictyum reticulaum, Glossodinium cf dimorphium, Tubotuberella owensii, Aldorfia cf. dictyota, Cribroperidinium cf. angulosum Ctenidodinium cf. Ornatumn, Eginontodinium sp., and Dinogymnium sp. Based on worldwide stratigraphic significance of the above-mentioned taxa, Upper Collovian-Middle Oxfordian age is suggested for this biozone, Biozone III (Dinoflagellate assemblage zone III)
Occurs in a thickness of 19.5m. of the section and is identified by the first appearance and last occurrence of dinoflagefllate taxa, Systemnatophora daveyi Prolixosphaeridium cf. anasillum, Prolixosphaeridium sp.
Cribroperidinium sp., Cometodinium sp., Cannosphaeropsis sp., and Tubotuberella sp.
Based on the worldwide stratigraphic significance of the above-mentioned taxa, Middle-Upper Oxfordian age is suggested for this biozone.
Statistical studies shows that the following species are the most abundant forms: Gonyaulacysta, Nannoceratopsis, Pareodinia, Meiourogonyaulax, Carpathodinium, Escharisphaeridia, Ctenidodinium, and Tubotuberella.
The statistical studies also show three transgression and four regrssion phases.
Middle Bajocian-Upper Oxfordian age is suggested for Dalichay Formation at Farizi section, based on worldwide stratigraphic significance of the dinoflagellates species.
