Abstract :
The first line of Mashhad urban light rail transit system with 19 km lenght from Nakhrisi station in southeast to Vakilabad station in northweast is under construction. The transit system including 10.5 km subway from Nakhrisi station to Azadi square station and 8.5 km surface extension from Azadi square stetion to Vakilabad station. About 67% of the rail lenght passes in coarse alluvial sediments with suitable geotechnical condition, 11.4% of it passes in alternative sand and clay layers and remaining lenght of the project is clay materials with poor geotechnical condition in southeast. The total lenght of rail system is above the table.
This research deals with the sediment's geotechnical characteristic and the sediments origin along the urban light rail. Also a comparison was made between available log information and field data.
A model was developed for zonation of the sediment in the mashhad plain, based on available soil data from drilled borehole up to depth of 15 meters and the trench over the Mashhad plain.
