Abstract :
In the geological map of Mashhad on the scale of 1:250000, in the north of Binalood miuntains, there are limestones, recognized to be belonging to lower cretaceous. This stoneuiiit is mainly composed of the limestones containing Ooid and Orbitolina which rest upon Ternigenous sediments of Shoorigeh under Quaterner sediments. The studies show that this stoneunit is composed of twelve carbonate microfacies and a single ternigenous facies of which. three facies belong to Open marin invironment, five to Barrier, one to back barrier three to Suhtjdal invironment and one other to Intertidal invironment After drawing the stratigraphical columns, the carbonate unit was divided in to three parts.
In this study, according to the dicscovered fossils, the age of the carbonate
unit is suggested be Barremian-Aptian. The comparision made between thc
properties of the stone facies under study and the formations studied in Kopet Dagh? and Alborz indicates that the carbonate unit is the same as Tirgan formation.
