Abstract :

The Kopet-Dagh basin formed after Kimmerian orogeny in the Middle Triassic in the NE Iran. During Oxfordian- Kimmeridjian, the Mozduran Formation deposited in a carbonate platform in the east. The Mozduran Formation in the easternmost parts of Kopet-Dagh, is mainly composed of siliciclastic sediments. These sediments disconformably covered the marine shale of the Kashafroud Formation and also is coverd by ,siliciclastic continental rocks of the Shurijeh Formation
Four stratigraphic sections have been measured (Kole Malk-abad Kalekarab, Derazab and Karizak). The thickness of this formation in the studied section is 422rn, 126m, 268m and 509m, respectively. Based or s formation has been divided vertical and lateral lithologic variations, the into some portions. Kolemalek-abad section is divided into three portions The lower portion is consists of oolitic limestone with some sandstone the middle portion is Gypsiferouse shales with interbeded of sandstonc and limestone and the upper portion constits of alternation of shale with sandstone. Kaickarab section has been divided in to three portions. The lower portion with sandstone, middle portion with alternation of shale and sandstone and the upper portion with sandstone. Derazab section consist5 of a lower portion with alternation of shale and sandstone and the upper portion with sandstone. Karizak section is also divided into three portins The lower portion is composed of coarsening and thickening upward cycles and alternation of shale and sandstone. The middle portion has beer formed from coarsening and thickening upward cycles and the upper portion consists of sandstone.
Microscopic study of one handred samples led to identification of two carbonate and siliciclastic facies. The carbonate facies are composed of sub lacies of sandy dolomite, sandy micrite, pelsparite, biosparudite, sorted oosparite and bioclastic oosparite facies( A1 to A6 ), respectively and siliciclastic facies consisted of conglomerate, silty shale, quartzarenite subl itharenite, Iitharenite, fossiloferrouse Litharenite and gypsi ferouse .) shale deposited (A1 to A7 carbonate facies have been deposited in tidal flat , lagoon and barrier bar and siliciclastic facies are deposited in tidal delta, tidal flat, shoreface anc ,lagoon as depositional system.
Based on the petrographic study, various diagenetic processes affected seddirnents. These processes in carbonate comprises of cementation , fibreouse, syntaxial, bulky and druzy cements), micritization( compaction, dolomitization, neomorfism and calcitic veins and in the , siliciclastjc rock comprises of carbonate, dolomite and silica cements ,compaction, dolomitization and calcitic veins.
Sequence stratigrphy analysis of the studied area, indicated that the Mozduran Formation in Kole malek-abad and Kalekarab sections consists of Three depositional sequence (Three order) ,while in Derazab and Karizak sections is composed of five depositional sequence (Three order). The lower and upper sequence boundaries in the first and last sequences in every section is type one and erosional and other boundaries are type two. Paleogeography recostraction is presented in 7 stages.
