Abstract :

Based on relative aboundance and short stratigraphic range of nannfossils, they are used as very appropriate tools for biostratigraphic subdivision, especially in Late Cretaceous age time. Floating characteristic and issued wide geographical distribution of these fossils is effective in inter regional correlation.
According to this reason and due to lack of any precies Paleontological study regarding the Neyzar Formation, this Formation has been investigated on the basis of nannofossils in type section is located in Tang-e-Neyzar in Mashhad- Sarakhs roadway, 122 and 17 Km far away from city of Mashhad and Mozdoran village respectively.
Lithologically this Formation consists of thick-bedded glauconitic sandstoneshale and a sandy limestone bed in upper part. In this search, 48 specimens were collected from shaly part and were studied after preparation Results issuded from taxonomical studies of Calcareous nannoplankton in studied section lead to identification of 9 Families, 19 Genuse and 39 Species.
Due to stratigraphic distribution of calcareous nannoplankton in studied section and base on the first occurance of index the biozons CC25 and CC26 of Sissingh,1977, and sub zones CC25c,CC26a,CC26b of Perch-! Nielsen, are proposed.
According to two mentioned biozones, earliest Late Maastrichtian to uppermost Late Maastrichtian age is proposed for the Neyzar Formation.
