Abstract :
Due to the stratigraphic value of calcareous nannoplanktons in age determining of sedimentary beds, the Itamir Formation in the Kopet Dagh Basin has been selected for biostratigrphy and possible environmental studies. Lithologically, this formation consists of an underlying glauconitic sandstones and overlying olive- green shales. The Itamir Formation is 350.7 in thickness in the Shorab Section which 193.5 meters of lower part of the formation has been investigated for the mentioned purposes. 40 samples (37 from Itamir formation and 3 from the top of sanganeh formation) have been collected and preparated. As a result of the taxonomic studies 19 genera and 24 species belonging to 11 families were identified. According to stratigraphic distribution of calcareous nannoplanktons of the studied section, the first occurrence of index species and fossil assemblage, two bizones of sissingh bizonation (1997) are erected which are coincide with biozones CC1 1 and CC 12. Based on the mentioned biozons the Late cenomanian-Late Touronian age is proposed for the studied section.
