Abstract :
Shurab antimony deposit is located in 77 km of Ferdous town and 8 km north of Shurab area at Lut structural zone. Geology of area is mainly composed of Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and volcanic and subvolcanic rocks of Tertiary age. Folds and fractures are the main structural features in the mining area. Mineralization is in the form of veins and veilets that comply with structural controls and antimony mineralization is dominantly located in fractures with E-W trends. Theses fractures were the main conduit for migration of ore-bearing fluid from depth toward surface. Mineralization occurred in fractured rhyodacite and dacite and it can be inferred that the main host rocks are Tertiary sub-volcanic rocks.
The Shurab igneous rocks shows calc-alcaline affinity with andesite as the common rock and petrogenetic investigation indicates that volcanism has been related to subduction events.
Mineralogy of Shurab deposit is simple and mainly composed of stibnite as the major phase, in association with minor chalcostibnite, chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite and quartz and calcite as gangue minerals.
Open space filling are the dominant textures and replacement textures are rare. Alteration in Shurab deposit is widespread showing regular patters of potassic, phyllic (sericitic), argillic and propylitic areolas. Silicification is widespread in the Shurab area and alkaline and alkali earth metasomatism has been an effective process. Water interaction with wall rocks was probably one of the sources of metals for ore-bearing fluid (s).
